Mr. Zhang has broad experience both in domestic courts and in numerous arbitration forums. Over the course of his legal career, Mr. Zhang has handled over two hundred cases in litigation or arbitration procedures, covering international trade, admiralty & maritime disputes in the United States, London, SIAC, HKIAC, CIETAC and other centers. In the course of handling these matters, Mr. Zhang earned a stellar reputation among his clients as a professional who is extremely experienced in foreign trade practice, is capable of handling the law in a proper and subtle manner, and has an incomparable work ethic in achieving satisfying results for his clients.
An arbitrator listed in 29 Arbitration Institutions including eight Foreign Arbitration Institutions, i.e. KLRCA, CAM, HKIAC, VIAC, TAB, the Spanish Court of Arbitration, a supporting member in LMAA, Arbitration Court of Czech, and 21 Chinese Arbitration Institutions, i.e.CIETAC, CMAC, SHIAC, SCIA, the Arbitration Center Across the Straits, Shanghai Arbitration Comm., Changzhou Arbitration Comm., Nanchang Arbitration Comm., Hefei Arbitration Comm., Wuhan Arbitration Com., Guangzhou Arbitration Comm., Harbin Arbitration Comm., Dalian Arbitration Comm., Changchun Arbitration Comm., Lianyungang Arbitration Comm., Chongqing Arbitration Comm., Qingdao Arbitration Comm., Ningbo Arbitration Comm., Taizhou Arbitration Comm.,Langfang Arbitration Comm.,Changsha Arbitration Comm. He is regularly called on to sit in various arbitration tribunal boards.

In addition to his litigation and arbitration experience, Mr. Zhang has participated in legal affairs with respect to corporate operations & transactional risk control, and foreign investment since 1999. After entering the legal profession, Mr. Zhang served in several capacities. He was legal counsel for Shanghai Baosteel International Trade Corporation where he was in charge of handling legal issues and transactional risks control in the company’s operation. Mr. Zhang later served as a foreign legal advisor to the US law firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly, focusing on foreign investment, international trade and trade remedies. He once participated in and provided legal service to over ten projects regarding the establishment of foreign-invested enterprises and foreign direct investment programs.

As one of leading counsels in the field of trade remedies, Mr. Zhang was entrusted to handle over one hundred cases of anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard measures resulting from investigations launched by the European Union, United States, Canada, India, Australia, Turkey, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Russia, Thailand, and other countries.

In the fields of antitrust and competition law, Mr. Zhang’s team, as a member of the specially retained lawyer panel of MOFCOM and the legal cooperation unit of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, has dealt and assisted more than ten cases regarding concentration notification issues, among which were mainly involved the concentration notification affairs of famous domestic and foreign iron and steel companies of Fortune 500 companies (Baosteel Group, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc.?JFE Group., etc.). Mr. Zhang has tremendous experiences with respect to the field of antitrust and unfair competition. He has provided legal consultation service and guidance for large-scale state-owned iron and steel companies and famous local enterprises in Shanghai with respect to concentration notification issues of certain projects. Mr. Zhang has been also invited by SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission) of Jiangxi Province to address the concentration notification issue to the leaders of relevant state-owned companies and government departments.

Prior to Mr. Zhang’s legal practicing experience, he had the unique experience of acting as engineer and serving as a corporate official with respect to international trade. From August, 1986 to January, 1992, Mr. Zhang worked as an Engineer (Welding) for Shanghai Pudong Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. of Baosteel Group. From February, 1992 to October, 1999, he was an international salesman in the Import Department of Shanghai Pudong Iron and Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. of Baosteel Group, and later acting as the manager of Marketing, Marine Transportation, and Export Departments respectively, in charge of trade, ocean transportation, L/C, customs declaration, FTZ entrepot trade, international and domestic tendering & bidding, and handling cases and disputes concerning foreign affairs. During this period, Mr. Zhang studied public accounting and became proficient with accounting and finance.
