The importance of arbitration in small, developing countries

Many factors account for confidence in a country’s business environment. Above all there must be predictability, which is a result of the combination of macroeconomic conditions; the stability of policies; the laws and administrative orders which govern the conduct of business; and the ability to resolve disputes promptly, efficiently and inexpensively.

This is the role of arbitration — a form of resolution of civil and commercial disputes outside the courts.

Arbitration of local and international commercial disputes is particularly important in developing countries, and especially so in a globalised world economy.
